In late August of last season Trains Magazine chartered a replica photo freight train of one of the last freights to traverse Cumbres Pass in 1968. I was able to capture the first day of their trip out of Chama before having to head in for my shift in the shop.
D&RG 425 + Long Mixed Train!

A few weeks back the 425 made a run to Antonito out of Chama for a replication of an early Chili Line Train but with fall colors in full swing and freight cars deadheading over for a charter later in the week, the C&TS ran a near full tonnage mixed passenger train.

Earlier in the season there was a significant fire threat due to extremely dry conditions and it was decided by the railroad management to send the Engineer/Fireman School Train on the end of Train 216, over Cumbres Pass in case the railroad was prevented from running out of Chama. Two Engine Freight Up the RGS

As part of the Rio Grande Southern Recreation charter, the 315 was used with the train for the day to simulate a midtrain helper for the first half of the day. After making it to Osier, the engines were switched out to simulate a double header on the way home.

As part of the National Narrow Gauge Convention the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec held a Rio Grande Southern recreation charter featuring RGS 455, several repainted cars, and an authentic RGS caboose #0400.

With snow still on the mountains after a recent storm I decided to head out to Cajon to see the different trains. Maintenance of way crews can be seen moving about after replacing rail and cleaning up the remaining mess after the storm.

Painful to watch, but great video. Always wondered how this process worked. I now know how to drive a piling into the ground at random angles 😂 J/K, those guys did a fantastic job restoring that beast.

Did this place or yourself possibly ask if they have ever measured the drag weight? It's gotta be pretty considerable being G scale 🤔🧐
I never actually measured the actual drag weight but I physically could not pull the train with my hands when the engines were cut off and we started to put the train away
